Look for flows all around to continue to drop and clear and we might begin to see some icing at least in the smaller waterways. Looks like a nice fishing window right now in those smaller tribs that normally might be frozen up this time of the season. Anglers might consider re-releasing those fish in the turbine channel. The king was 32 pounds, 4 ounces and it was a new Grand Prize leader for the derby. All the trib flows are on the retreat from the last rain. No lunch will be offered and no fly fishing tourney will be held. Reports of some medium fresh steelhead and a few spirited chromers thrown in. Get the drift or swing down and checked and slowed a bit and you can find a head shaking steelhead on the take. Always the chance at some fresh steelhead migrations that should only improve as we get into the later winter. Fresh steelhead chances for late winter, early spring usually means high and stained and cold water challenging drifts. At the Oak Billboard on the NYS Thruway. Patience and persistence on the Oak may finally be paying off. No major accumulations beyond a few inches expected here on the WNY big Lake Ontario Plain. Most Kings will be spawning or on zombie patrol with the occasional fresher fish. Rain has been slow and steady so look for smaller area trib flows to go high and dirty probably stopping short of blown. The better reports I hear are from guys that have some Kings migrate past them or hold and they get some drifts to them. Well just have to wait and see if itll be a hard and fast melt or something a little more moderate and gradual.
New open Lake steelhead creel limits should help overall survivability too.
